Film “Serbian Film (2010)” is not an easy film to watch and is unlikely to be outstripped of the title as the most shocking film of 2010. Whether the film will be shown any time soon in Serbia is not yet entirely clear but Radivojevic says that the success at the film festivals and the positive reviews, means that “some things are moving towards the film being shown in Serbia.” When it comes, have a shot or two of Rakija to calm the nerves and go and see this ‘Serbian Film’.
The international image of Serbian cinema tends to revolve around the depiction of gypsies combined with Kusturica’s fantastic elements of magic realism and the reworking of traditional Balkan music in the soundtracks of Goran Bregovic.
Now, following the premiere of ‘A Serbian Film’ (Srpski Film) at the ‘South by Southwest’ Film Festival in Austin, Texas in March, a darker side of Serbian cinema has been dominating the headlines of movie magazines.
In film tells the story of retired porn-star, Milos who lives a normal life with his wife and six year old son. Milos is having trouble trying to make ends meet and following a phone call from a former colleague who introduces him to Vukmir, a pornography producer, his life takes an unexpected turn down a road none of us could even remotely picture – until we see it on screen.
Writers: Aleksandar Radivojevic (screenplay), Srdjan Spasojevic (screenplay)
Director: Srdjan Spasojevic
Stars: Srdjan Todorovic, Sergej Trifunovic and Jelena Gavrilovic
